Thursday February 1 to  Friday February 9 Broughton Island and Bushwalking around Port Stephens.

Broughton Island is a treeless, windswept island 12 nautical miles offshore where seabirds nest. You will camp among Muttonbirds, Little Penguins and the Green and Golden Bell Frog. Thursday 1st February, drive to Nelson Bay and move in to your accommodation for 4 nights. We will be doing walks 6, 7, 8, 9, 12, 14 and 16 from my guide book Monday 5th Feb. board charter boat for Broughton Island, a 1 hr wild boat trip. Camp on Broughton Island 4 nights. High tide is for fishing, snorkelling and free time to explore the island. Each day at low tide there will be a guided walk, numbers 17, 18 and 19 in my guide book. Cost will be about $100 per person for NPWS campsite fee and boat charter, depending on numbers. In addition there will be accommodation costs at Nelson Bay for 4-5 nights. There is a toilet at the campsite. Byo tent, food and water. Michael has been visiting Broughton Island for 30 years. Here is a trip report 12 participants (Members only). Grade: 3.

Trip 1. Overland Track Tasmania (Cradle Mountain to Lake St Clair)

The walk is extremely varied, crossing high alpine moors and rocky screes rising to dolerite peaks and travelling through eucalypt and myrtle forests. This is an extended walk (65km) and participants will need to carry their food, equipment and tent (optional) for the 6 days of walking. Includes side trips to Cradle Mtn, Barn Bluff, Mt Emmett, Mt Oakleigh, Mt Ossa, Mt Pelion East (all optional). Maximum Group size 8. Grade 3. Side trips Grade 4 to 5. . Trip 2. Tasmania various routes. Possibilities include: 7 day Western Arthurs, 4 day Frenchmans Cap, 4 day Mt Anne Circuit. For very fit and very experienced pack walkers ONLY.  Alternative walks will be planned, as these will only be attempted in favourable conditions. Involves rock scrambling, serious height exposure, pack hauling, in very remote area. Walkers must be totally self sufficient & carry their own camping gear. Maximum group size 6. Grade7. Friday May 11 to Monday May 14  2018 Binnaburra Weekend. Deposits paid on 22 of the 36 cabins available

The lodge has been booked out. A weekend comprising walks of all grades, non walking events  and much fun and entertainment. Optional activities include, archery, bird walks, yoga, meditation, painting, photography sessions. Nightly live entertainment will be put on. For those staying in the lodge, they will pay for 2 days and get the third day free. The final costings have now been calculated. For 2 people staying in an Acacia cabin with ensuite the total cost will be $799.98. This tariff includes  full board for 3 days and nights ie breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, cheese and biscuits and dinner. For those staying in a Casuarina cabin with a shared bathroom, the cost for 2 people is $579.99. Cabins will take 3 people, an extra person will be charged a total of $240 for full board. For those camping and attending the bush dance on the Saturday night, the charge will be $42pp for cheese and biscuits followed by dinner. If you are camping book now as there will be a big demand for sites following the Commonwealth Games. The itinerary in detail has yet to be worked out, but there will be a short afternoon walk(s) on arrival after lunch on the Friday. Also the Lodge will offer a guided walk each afternoon. There will be a presentation on Friday night on the history of Binna Burra followed by live entertainment. Each morning there will be yoga and / or qui gong. Walking options for the following 3 days will include full day on track and off track, half day and short walks led by various club members. There will be a quiz on Sunday evening followed by more entertainment. The aim of this weekend is for everyone to have fun doing what they like. Friday August 10 to Tuesday August 14 Tenterfield Walks and birding watching on the last day.

Tenterfield in winter. What could be better than to bunk down in a cosy cabin and have happy hour in the camp kitchen and then head off in the cool of the morning to some great walking in the National Parks nearby. Three days of walks generally grade 3 with some on granite slopes and others following  babbling mountain streams or joining the local fauna for a look around the quiet forest and open grasslands. We will be doing some of the iconic walks in the Parks and others that are out of the way and little visited. Option of a 1 day cycle led by Winston and Heike.

For the bird watchers we have scouted out some to the secret locations known to the locals for off the beaten path bird watching to get a sights of Turquoise Parrots, Speckled Warblers, Plum Headed Fiches etc

We will be based at Tenterfield Lodge Caravan park run by new owners Barry and Di O’Connor (02)67361477. You can ring direct or book online for non ensuite cabins, ensuite cabins, The Lodge Guesthouse, powered and unpowered sites. You can book accommodation now but please advise the owners you are with Northern Rivers Bushwalking Club. Non ensuite cabin for 2 people is $65 pn and $8 for an extra person. Standard ensuite cabins are $85 pn plus $8 for an extra person. Powered sites are $29 pn for 2 people. These are  this years’ prices which will change next financial year.

Monday November 19 Trip to Australian Alps for 2 weeks.

This trip will depart Melbourne airport and include 3-5 night stays in Bright, Dinner Plain and Bogong Village or Falls Creek…with moderate-easy walks most days.  Accommodation will be self-catering.

Further details will be available in Nov 2017 and bookings/deposits will be taken then (not before).
