Sunday July 9 Salty Lagoon Broadwater National Park

Walkers will meet at the seaward end of Broadwater Beach Road (accessed just a short distance south of Broadwater on the Broadwater Evans Head Road) at Broadwater Headland, and will walk the 5km to Salty Lagoon. Half of the walk will be along access and fire trails through coastal heath and scrub, which should be nicely in flower at the time. Bird watchers will have a field day. There is a tiny (50m) section of easy bush bashing. The second half of the walk will be along the open sandy beach. We will have lunch at Salty Lagoon. The return 5km walk will be up the beach and probably back along the trails. Depending on the tide, there may be an option for a group to scramble along the beach and coffee rock outcrops back to Broadwater Headland. We will celebrate this famous club walk at the end of the walk with tea and cakes at the picnic area at the nearby Finns Trail picnic area. Bring lunch, morning and afternoon tea and the usual sunny weather gear. Total distance 10km, grade 2-3. Map 1:25,000 9539-1N Woodburn.
