Wednesday February 26 to Tuesday March 17 2020 NZ Cycling Provisional Itinerary
The event starts on Feb 26 at 11am at Auckland Airport where we collect a 12 seater minibus and bike carrier from Maugers Rentals. It is anticipated that all participants will take a turn at driving. Copies of driving licences will be needed to be sent over before the trip. The option is to bike hire from Natural High at the airport who will also store the cycle boxes from Australia for those who ride their own bike. The cost of hiring is $335 for the 20 days. The bike recommended is an Avanti Discovery 3.
We then drive to Paihia in the Bay of Islands. The stay here will include the Twin Coast Cycle Trail, cruise to Russell Island or a cycle on Russell Island. We then travel to the west coast via Horeke and Dargaville for forest cycling. Next we travel to Thames where the Hauraki Rail Trail starts. We then move on to Rotorua for 2 nights. where the Thermal Trail will be enjoyed by all. The next trail is The Timber Trail which will last for 2 days and we will stay for 1 night at the Timber Trail Lodge. If the weather permits we will walk the Tongariro Crossing, regarded by many as the best one day walk on the planet. The final area to visit is Taranaki where we will have the opportunity to climb Mt Taranaki in the Egmont National Park.
