NRBC will have a display table at this Mountainfilm night . The 2019 Mountainfilm on Tour features the best short films from the annual Mountainfilm festival in Telluride, Colorado. One word sets Mountainfilm apart from other tours – HEART. Join us for a celebration of adventure, environment and the human spirit. Mountainfilm is one of the world's best mountain film festivals, featured in the Top 25 Coolest Film Festivals in the World by MovieMaker magazine. The festival has been held in May each year since 1979, with the best films then touring more than 150 locations around the world. Mountainfilm toured Australia and New Zealand for the first time in 2017 to rave reviews. This year's films feature an awesome mix of short films featuring the likes of climber Alex Honnold, ultra runner Kilian Jornet as well as mountaineering, mountain biking, expedition travel, fly fishing, cultural and environmental stories. Sunday May 5 Shaws Bay, Ballina to Lennox Head Walk– group size limited to 16.
Walk past Boulder, Sharpes, Angels, Shelleys and Lighthouse beaches and over 2 headlands. There is a rocky section at Boulder Beach – bring walking poles for this section if you wish. 12 km Grade 1-2.
Meet at Lennox Head to catch 2.10pm bus to Shaws Bay ($2.50 concession).
At the end of the walk, we will have dinner at Lennox Bowls Club at 6pm (optional).

Exploratory off track walk/scramble from GR 260463 following a ridge. Elevation gain is 720m over a distance of 3 km. Limit 8 experienced fit members. Grade 7. Leader Cam 0413 117142
Monday May 6 Nerang State Forest Mountain Biking and Hiking
This day caters to both mountain bikers and walkers. Nerang State Forest has a network of over 60 km of shared trails, for bikers and walkers. We will be doing several large loops and covering some of the trails used for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. We will meet at 9.30am at the Nerang Velodrome Carpark on Hope Street Nerang. When coming up the M1 take the exit to North Nerang/Surfer's Paradise Exit 69 and turn left down Nerang Connection Road to the Velodrome. It should take you just over an hour to get there from Bangalow as it is a public holiday. Jeff will be leading the mountain bikers and Carmel the walkers, so something for everyone to enjoy. We plan to finish the biking and walking about 1.00pm and have a picnic lunch in the beautiful parklands at the Velodrome. Please bring some lunch and a chair or rug. There are no BBQ's in the parklands. There is a cafe nearby that does sandwiches and coffee if you want to pick something up there. Saturday May 11 Rocky Creek Scramble, Nightcap NP
We will use AWDs to drive up North Rocks Rd to the Nightcap NP gate. On a recent trip a Forester and Rav4 negotiated that road quite well. Then we will walk down Tungun Rd until we reach Rocky Creek. It is then the most picturesque scramble up an endless series of cascades and waterfalls, across Gibbergunyah Rd and up to the very source of the creek which is just below the postman's tree on the Nightcap track. This workshop on lightweight equipment and dehydrated food will show you how to pack for multi-day hikes which can get you to otherwise unreachable places as well as iconic walks like The Overland or the Larapinta.
We will follow this up with an overnight hike in Nightcap National Park: up Red Rd, camping on the Mt Jerusalem track near the lookout across Doon Doon valley. Day 2 is along the Nightcap track, past the tea tree lookout with views to Byron Bay, past the postman's tree and returning down North Rocks Rd. Saturday May 25 Mt Cougal – East Peak - Springbrook NP - FULLY BOOKED!
This is a day walk on the NSW/Qld border, starting from the Garden of Eden Rd, Tomewin, near Murwillumbah. There is a rough track (steep in places) following the border fence for most of the route and then some rock scrambling near the peak. The track initially passes through some tall grass and then some beautiful rainforest with fantastic Tweed Valley views from the top. Distance is 8.5 km return & total time will be about four hours, with an early lunch on top. Maximum of ten walkers. Grade 4.
