Wednesday January 1 Reclaim Byron cycle, walk and swim
Our annual 'Reclaim Byron' cycle or lighthouse walk with breakfast before Byron wakes up. Cyclists will start from the Byron Sports Ground (Cavanbah Centre) car park and cycle into The Pass for a swim. We will then head to the Beach Hotel for breakfast. Leader Ruth 0427846372. Jenny will lead the walkers who will start at Captain Cook car park at 6:30am, then have a swim with the cyclists before driving to the Beach Hotel. Friday January 3 Lennox Head to Boulders Beach coastal walk
Annual (well this is its second year) first Friday of the year walk and gathering. Meet at 4.30pm at the Pat Morton Lennox Head lookout for a walk down to Boulders Beach and back. Saturday , Sunday January 4, 5 Iron Pot Abseil Camp Toonumbah NP
Weekend camp at Iron Pot Creek Campground Toonumbah NP with abseiling Eden Creek Falls on Saturday and a recce of Smith's Creek on Sunday. Eden Creek is two drops of under 40m . Tuesday to Saturday January 7 to 11 Noosa River upper reaches kayak trip
We will stay the first night (7/1) at Elanda Point campground after driving up and assembling as a group. Next day we will launch in Lake Cootharaba and visit the Kinaba visitor centre sitting on stilts in the lake. Then we paddle via the Everglades, Fig Tree point, Harrys Hut on our way to campsite Number 1 and camp there for 3 nights. The campsite accommodates 8 people. On Jan 9 we will paddle to Teewah Creek and back. On Jan 10 we will check out Lake Cooloola on foot and on Jan 11 paddle back to the cars at Elanda Point. Thursday 9 January Paddle Simpsons Creek, Brunswick Heads FULLY BOOKED
This is a relaxing and beautiful paddle that follows the creek as it makes its way south from Brunswick Heads through the Tyagarah Nature Reserve. The high tide at Brunswick Heads of 1.7m at 8:47am will enable us to explore mangroves and to reach the dense vegetation at the end of the navigable part of the creek. We will have the benefit of incoming then outgoing tides to assist us as we glide along. Please bring food and drink - we will stop en route for morning tea. Crystal clear water, birds, fish, mangroves and sand banks.
Don’t have a kayak? No worries. You can hire a single kayak for half day for $50 ($55 for double) from Brunswick Buccaneers (contact details: 0414 300 012, www.brunswick-kayks.com/services.html)
We will launch from the small beach by the footbridge, next to the Scout Hall which is off (40) South Beach Road.

As the area is now open we will follow the old logging road from the picnic area and then walk up Terania and maybe Beech Creek. We will look at the impact by the recent fire on the rainforest in the valleys. Grade 4. Map Huonbrook.

Our walk commences with a meditative reading to embed us in the web of life. We will walk in periods of silence, pausing to share our feelings for the rainforest. Grade 3.

Sunday January 12 Arakwal NP FULLY BOOKED
A stroll through different vegetation areas of the park and along Tallow Beach, with a social evening at the Norton's afterwards. Meeting at 4.30 pm at 1 Beachcomber Drive, Byron Bay to drop off finger food to share. This walk is grade 2 and about 7 km, mostly flat with an opportunity to finish at the half way point for those who might feel too hot!

Sunday January 19 Chowan Creek Mt Jerusalem NP FULLY BOOKED Cancelled
We will rock hop and scramble down Chowan Creek from Unicorn Falls near South Chowan Road and then up the tributary creek to the base of Sphincter Falls. Then we walk up a very steep slope to the road and follow it back down to the cars and a dip in the creek. Map Burringbar, Grade 4 to 5, Distance 5km, Limit 10 walkers.

Thursday January 23 Fire in Gondwanan Rainforests, walk and talk
Dr Rob Kooyman has just completed an initial assessment of the fire damage in the Nightcap and Mt Jerusalem National Parks. Rob has decades of experience in our local parks. He is giving a talk at 7 pm on Thursday at the Wilsons Creek Hall.The talk is organised by the Wilsons Creek, Huonbrook Landcare group.
In the morning we are planning to walk up Oscars Rd to Doon Doon saddle, Tea Tree Lookout, flying fox lookout and Thunder Egg Rd into some of the fire grounds, so we will know what he is describing in the evening. Grade 3. There will be a DIY dinner at Barbara's after the walk and before the talk.

Friday to Monday January 24 to 27 Sherwood NR, Dorrigo and Bindarri NP
On Friday morning we will drive to Glenreagh and turn off to Sherwood NR. We can walk from Ewens Gap to a huge rock at GDA 020798 and stop at Arthurs Gap for a walk down Middle River for a swim and waterfall. Then we drive to Nana Glen and maybe Waihou Trig for an escarpment walk or to Dorrigo via Ulong with a stop at Dangar Falls.
On Saturday we combine the Rosewood Creek Circuit with Blackbutt Track and side trip to Cedar Falls 13km with car shuttle.
On Sunday we drive to the locked gate on Slingsbys Rd and walk through Killungoondie Plains to Lanes Lookout, then down to Stony Creek LO and up the Syndicate Ridge Track to the bull wheel. Then return to cars. 13km.
On Monday morning we will drive to Bindarri NP and visit Bangalore Falls. If possible we will continue along Urumbilum Creek Rd and explore the creek.
This plan could be changed due to the weather with some showers and thunderstorms forecast.

Sunday, January 26 - Evans River Kayak
The Evans River is a stunning place to paddle. The beautiful natural bushland of neighbouring Bundjalung and Broadwater National Parks provides habitat for birds and animals and a buffer zone for the crystal clear waters of the river. We will launch at 8am from the boat ramp on Bundjalung Road in South Evans Head (GPS: 29° 7′ 24.4″ S, 153° 25′ 48.7″ E) and paddle upstream to a secret creek with a waterfall which may be running if we are blessed with rain between now and then. We will have morning tea on a river beach where there will also be the opportunity to swim. Depending on conditions and the group, we may extend the trip with an exploration of another of the river's tributaries. Total distance = 10 to 14km with grade medium. Afterwards we can have lunch at the Evans Head Fish Co-op.
