Saturday 2 November 3 Peaks in a Day: Boyds Butte and the Cougals CANCELLED DUE TO BUSHFIRE
850m elevation rise, 8km return, 9hr return, Grade 6, Map Springbrook
Starting at Cougal Cascades Picnic Area in Springbrook National Park, we climb up to Boyds Butte very steeply off track through dense vegetation, then cross over to East Cougal and finally West Cougal - hence ‘3 Peaks in a Day’. There are views towards the coast from Boyds Butte and magnificent views over the Tweed Caldera from East Cougal.
We’ll aim to have morning tea on Boyds Butte and then lunch on East Cougal, and climb West Cougal after lunch before returning. Upon returning the same way, everyone will be rewarded for their hard work with a refreshing swim in the stunning cascades.
This will be an early start because we want to leave plenty of time at the end for swimming and afternoon tea. It's a long day, a very steep climb three times over, including some scrambling up rocks with potentially some use of rope involved, and pretty much all off-trail. Some people may choose to sit out 1 peak or 2, if they need a rest. Though even without climbing all the peaks, there is still plenty of steep elevation.
MUST BRING minimum 2L of water, plenty of food and snacks to keep you going, gloves and gaiters for off-trail use, rain gear and first aid kit. GOOD IDEA TO ALSO BRING Trekking pole for the creek crossing and the steep descent, warm gear, head torch & emergency blanket.

Saturday November 2 Terania Creek and Devil's Teeth, Nightcap NP
This is a beautiful full-day walk along Terania Creek before we move off-trail and climb to a peak called Devil's Teeth, where we will enjoy some views. There is mild exposure. We then climb back down to the creek another way. While the walk is not long in terms of distance (approximately 5km), it's a full-day walk because much of it is off-trail. There will be a few opportunities to cool off in the creek. Grade 4-5, Limit 12.

Saturday/Sunday November 23/24 Walk/kayak/bush tucker weekend, Sawtell NSW
Trip Leader: Lucy Baker lucy.baker@path2u.com.au, 0420664631
Saturday 23rd November.
10 AM - 2 PM. Bush tucker cultural walk along the Bulungal Walk, which is part of the Coffs Creek walk, with Uncle Mark Flanders, Gumbaynggirr Elder and Knowledge Holder. Uncle Mark grew up on the banks of Coffs Creek and has a vast wealth of knowledge of this area which he loves to share through his own cultural education business and as a NSW National Parks Discovery Ranger. Cost depends on the number of persons but for a group of 15 is $35 per person. We will then keep on walking the Coffs Creek walk (which is an 8.6 km circuit, grade = 1) and putting our new bush tucker skills to the test including a peruse through the Coffs Botanic Gardens.
3pm-5pm. For those wanting a wander, walk along Bongil Bongil National Park Beach – just across Bonville Creek (thigh deep water) from the Sawtell Caravan Park. For those feeling like a paddle we will be doing a kayak in Bonville Creek following the Pine Creek arm (launch just next to the caravan park). Alternatively there are great café’s and a movie theatre in Sawtell, and good surfing body/surfing on the main beach if you feel like chilling for the afternoon.
Sunday 24th November CHANGED DUE TO PARK CLOSURE
9am – 4pm For those feeling like a good steep walk we will be walking part of the Syndicate Trail up to Stony Creek Lookout (great views) and return in Dorrigo NP. This is a heritage timber hauling trail and there is still some hoop pine on the top of the escarpment as well as some Antarctic Beech trees. The trail is good and well-formed but relentlessly steep in places so will give your legs a good workout. It can be pretty slippery going down. It goes through about 800m elevation from near the Never Never Creek up to the Dorrigo Escarpment and covers about 11km. We can cool off with a swim back down at the bottom in Never Never Creek in the Promised Land (which flows into the Bellinger River). The start and end of the walk is Adams Lane near Gleniffer which is about 30 minutes drive along a dirt road from Sawtell. Grade 4.
Alternative: For those not wanting a steep walk there are flat walking options along local beaches and headlands, or further kayaking. Also an all day fundraising event is being at the Coffs Regional Botanic Gardens called Heart and Soul, which could be worth checking out.
Suggested accommodation: Sawtell Caravan Park (Big4) – tent, van or there are some excellent cabins with great views. Organise your own accommodation. Details below:
